An exhilarating moment in life is finally understanding the meaning of song lyrics. You’ve been listening to that neat song for several days, but you still can’t quite hear what the artist is saying. So you look it up (Google to the rescue), and suddenly you rush to replay the song as your jaw falls down a cliff.
They did not. Yes, they did. Oh no, they didn’t.
Our new experiences lend their own richness to an old favorite song. Each year we grow, we are able to appreciate more things, and it’s quite similar to how we grow in our faith! Each year we grasp a deeper knowledge of why we believe. Each year we go through experiences that test, strengthen, and shape our convictions.
C.S. Lewis depicted it so well in his second Narnia book, Prince Caspian.
“Aslan,” said Lucy, “You are bigger.”
“That is because you are older, little one,” answered he.
“Not because you are?”
“I am not. But every year you grow, you will find me bigger.”
God has always been bigger than any of us. He is of infinite love, glory, and power. He cannot be diminished or increased because He is Lord, the Great I AM. However, our human perception and understanding of Him will grow as we age. The older we become, prayerfully and by grace, the more we will realize how awesome He really is. While we will never, even in the new heavens and the new earth, be able to fully comprehend His glory, each day we walk one step closer through Jesus. And He uses daily life experiences, both the big things and the little things, to illuminate our path on our journey to Him.
