This Quiet Evidence

Happy New Year, friends!

There’s something so lovely about considering the many untraveled roads ahead, those paths God has placed before us. Each is unique, each is important, and each is part of God’s perfect plan for His people. 2017, as with every year, will be a year of change. There will be unknowns, there will be valleys, and there will be stressed out tears. But through it all, Jesus is Lord, and nothing can change that. Not the waves of verbal threats, the pain of physical threats, or even that never-ending to-do list on our desk.

We enter this new year hopefully, realistically, and trustingly. We have certain hopes and dreams that we long to fulfill and discover. We recognize there will be set-backs, and times when we want to throw up our hands in despair. But we also see how God has never let us down before, and He won’t stop His kindness towards us. His grace is real, it is close, and it is ready with unconditional love to lift us up, as well as catch us when we fall.

And so we are this quiet evidence. As followers of Jesus we are the evidence of His grace. His work in our hearts should spill out into our lives, and the lives of those around us. In the little things, the quiet and often unnoticed acts of love, His brightness shines forth.

You and I? We’re little mirrors reflecting the grace of God.

What will people see when they see us? Will they merely see a messed-up human? Or will they see a patched-up human, not because of anything we have done, but because of the wondrous mercy of our sovereign God?

Here’s to 2017.
